In order to be eligible for this position you must currently be a Warrant Officers (W1/WO1 - W4/CW4) or Commissioned Officer (O1/2LT-O3/CPT) in the Virginia Army National Guard OR not currently in the Virginia Army National Guard but you must be willing and eligible to immediately join the Virginia Army National Guard at one of those ranks.

Duties

Help

As a Helicopter Pilot (Title 32), GS-2181-11/12, you will perform the following duties:

  1. Under the instruction and guidance of the pilot in Command, the incumbent co-pilots a variety of one or more of the following helicopters: Attack Helicopter (AH-64); Cargo Helicopter (CH-47); Utility Helicopter (UH-60 series), (LUH-72 series) and others when assigned. Routinely operates with short takeoffs and landing capability and may be required to perform these duties in all types of weather, day, and night over a variety of terrains and open bodies of water. Flights are made using landing facilities ranging from modern, improved airport with paved runways and navigational aids to unimproved strips of remote, isolated villages. This position will be required to make reconnaissance and observation flights as needed. Makes test flights and checks all systems in connection with maintenance actions and takes necessary action to correct malfunctions. Participates in all-weather search and rescue operations as required utilizing a thorough knowledge of the terrain features of the geographical area. The ability to fly over unfavorable terrain primarily under visual flight conditions. Conducts flight checks following repairs, maintenance, or installation of approved aircraft system modifications. Responsible for transportation of cargo and transporting passengers, among a variety of familiar destinations
  2. Under the supervision of the Pilot in Command, performs Maintenance Operations Checks (MOCs); completes general or limited test flights of aircraft upon completion of extensive disassembly, reassembly, and maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts where tests cannot determine the safe and or proper functioning of aircraft components or systems; and ensures the airworthiness component or aircraft systems. Assists in acceptance test flights of new aircraft when required.
  3. May serve as a member of a board pertaining to aviation accidents, flight evaluation, collateral investigations, standardization, and federal recognition.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Preferred, but NOT required completion of the Aviation Life Support Equipment Repairer course.
  • Preferred, but NOT required experience with aviation/logistics systems management ("Aircraft Notebook" - ACN, "Central Aviation Flight Records System" CAFRS, "Global Combat Support System - Army" - GCSS-A)
  • Preferred, but NOT required experience with flight operations record keeping/management for forms and records.
  • Records to include from above the "DA Form 7120 - Commanders Task List", DA Form 7122 - Crewmember Training Record", "DD Form 2992 - Medical Recommendation for Flying", "DA Form 759 - Individual Flight Record and Flight Certificate".

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Warrant Officers (W1/WO1 - W4/CW4) or Commissioned Officer (O1/2LT-O3/CPT) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Warrant Officers (W1/WO1 - W4/CW4) or Commissioned Officer (O1/2LT-O3/CPT) regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
Group III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard

Military Grades: Warrant Officers (W1/WO1 - W4/CW4) or Commissioned Officer (O1/2LT-O3/CPT)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience, training, or knowledge that provides you a competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government? This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:

  1. Experience in civilian or military aviation programs.
  2. Experience, training, or knowledge providing the competence to review and analyze mission tasks, intelligence, and weather information.
  3. Experience including aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  4. Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures.

Education

For Army National Guard Second and First Lieutenants, must be actively pursuing an under-graduate degree with at least 90 validated credit hours in a specified program. For Captains and above, must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
