Help
  • You will be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health programs that are interrelated with other IHD technical and administrative programs.
  • You will monitor and evaluate the safety of hazardous chemicals and materials, industrial trades environmental, and workplace situations ensuring program effectiveness in eliminating or controlling hazards to station site and federal property.
  • You will conduct surveys, inspections and studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, ordnance explosives production facilities, and operations where toxic and flammable liquids, gases and chemical materials are used and produced.
  • You will represent the command at Health and Safety seminars and conferences.
  • You will evaluate workplaces to determine environmental health risks, exposure levels and make technical recommendations of findings.
  • You will review facility drawings and specifications to plan for site surveys for environmental controls, illumination levels, particulates and other biological, chemical and/or physical agents' control.
  • You will evaluate personal protective equipment to determine compliance with regulations.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial areas to ensure workplace safety.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education


In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

-Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

-Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

-Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.

OR

-A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

This announcement uses the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) Direct Hire Authority for STRL Mission Support to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

You will serve as an ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL SPECIALIST in the Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office (00SA) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division located in Indian Head, MD.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.
The NT-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-11 through GS-12.
