Duties

Help

  • Troubleshoots a variety of ordnance systems, such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, egress and jettison systems, and rocket launching equipment.
  • Repairs, modifies, and adjusts the ordnance system to conform to specifications using a variety of tools, orders and plans.
  • Conducts "power on" check of the aircraft ordnance system by energizing the system with APU power source.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work area.

Qualifications

This position is a developmental (WG-05 Target WG-10) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the WG-05. Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position may be subject to a formalized training program and pay retention of 150% of he maximum rate of the basic pay and is authorized for candidates requesting a Voluntary Change to Lower Grade. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600, Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Trouble shooting
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation and Repair
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprints and reading)

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed either inside or outside, and subjects the employee to prevailing weather conditions, noise, slippery or uneven surfaces, and working in confined areas. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, grease, oil, dirt, electrical shock, and possible injury when de-arming and arming the system.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
