Duties

As a DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS (TITLE 5), GS-1801-12, you will serve as the focal point for interpreting, developing, and implementing Air Force inspection policy and wing-level long-range strategic plans.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Plans, organizes, resources, and directs the execution of a wide range of complex inspection activities for the wing Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP).
  • Oversees compliance, plans, and conducts By-Law, Special Emphasis Items (SEI), Special Interest Items (SII), Command Interest Items (CII) and nuclear assurance inspections as outlined by requirements from the DoD, DAF, NGB, and G-MAJCOM.
  • Routinely required to interpret and incorporate complex laws, and guidance from all levels for the creation of inspection plans throughout the wing.
  • Develops and communicates a continuously evaluated Risk Based Sampling Strategy (RBSS).
  • Authors and approves IG inspection reports, which communicate to commanders at all levels the status of compliance within their organization as well as the unit(s) ability to accomplish their tasked mission(s).
  • Delivers post-inspection assertions directly to the Wing Commander for grading, performance, and compliance for all inspection activities in a formal written report with detailed deficiencies, recommendations, and strengths.
  • Develops and incorporates inspection strategies that are utilized throughout the wing, incorporating multiple systems, including but not limited to, Management Internal Control Toolkit (MICT), Inspector General Enterprise Management System-Classified (IGEMS-C), IGEMS, and readiness reporting tools.
  • Oversees gatekeeper functions are being accomplished and continuously communicated to Higher Headquarters (HHQ).
  • Continuously analyzes inspection processes, and procedures to ensure commanders intent is being achieved, autonomously adjusts processes as required.
  • Applies an extensive knowledge of installation operations and DoD, DAF, and G-MAJCOM guidance to direct complex strategic planning and exercise efforts.
  • Utilizes qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques that frequently require modification to fit a wide range of variables to determine the unit's ability to accomplish the mission(s).
  • Reviews the adequacy and currency of installation exercise policy guidance and instructions, and updates as necessary to incorporate program changes or to address areas where improvement is required.
  • Responsible for organizing and analyzing data from inspections and exercises across the DoD with the goal of identifying and communicating trends.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • IAW The Fair Chance Act, Agency employees may not request criminal history information at the point of initial application, upon receipt of an application, or prior to, during or after a job interview. If an Optional Form (OF) 306, Declaration of Employment is submitted prior to the point of a conditional offer, questions related to background information section may not be asked.
  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.? This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
  • IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the wing Inspector General Training Course Inspections (IGTC-I) within 180 days of appointment; must complete Inspector General Training Course Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 180 days of appointment; and IG appointees for nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD, AF, and National Guard Bureau regulations. Recommend completion of the NGB/IG Advanced Course within one year of appointment.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • This position requires a secret security clearance; the incumbent of this position must obtain and maintain a secret Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available for this position.
  • PCS expenses may be authorized.

Qualifications

TITLE 5 AREAS OF CONSIDERATION
AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 5 Excepted Service, will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be candidates who match through the Priority Placement Program (PPP).
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be Veterans' Preference (VP) eligible.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The SIXTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-12 level MUST possess at least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level; experience interpreting, developing, and implementing inspection policies; experience in interpreting, developing long-range strategic plans; ability to provide direction and oversight of internal and external inspections, audits, evaluations, reviews, exercises, and analysis to determine effectiveness and efficiency; ability to ensure operations, contingency, and mobilization plans adhere to policy; ability to direct the effective use of resources.
