It is being recruited under 10 U.S.C. 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system. Positions in the Cyber Excepted Service are positions necessary to carry out and support the mission of the United States Cyber Command.

Help
  • Uses data collected from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs.) to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of mitigating threats.
  • Performs assessments of systems and networks identifies where those systems/networks deviate from acceptable configurations, enclave policy, or local policy.
  • Explores next generation security technology as part of an evolving technical design of the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) and its security components.
  • Conducts all types of testing and provides technical support for large system tests.
  • Provide educated recommendations on security technologies, service improvements, budgetary estimations, and similar activities.
  • Skill in negotiating with co-workers, customers, management officials and vendor representatives to successfully identify and interpret customer security system requirements and to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to provide specific information concerning systems issues with vendors, customers, and management.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

  • Top Secret/ SCI security clearance required.
  • In accordance with the DoD 8140 policy series, the position is subject to completing Foundational Qualifications in 9 months and completing Residential Qualification requirements overall in 12 months.

Qualifying Experience:
To qualify at the GG-13, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience in developing cyber defense trend analysis and reporting such as analyzing identified malicious activity to determine weaknesses exploited, exploitation methods, effects on system and information or experience in cyber defense research, analysis, and correlations of source data sets (indications and warnings).

Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume. All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GG-13 grade level.

  • A three year probationary period may be required.
