As a SUPV IT SPECIALIST (Network), GS-2210-12, you will:

This position is located in the Operations Section of a Base Communications Unit. This position serves as the Operations Section supervisor and a senior Information Technology (IT) specialist. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The purpose of this position is to perform a full range of supervisory functions providing administrative control and technical direction and oversight for subordinate personnel within the Section. Responsible for analyzing customer requirements and managing the systems administration, optimization, operational requirements and maintenance associated with the various local area/wide area networks (LAN/WAN), wireless systems, and voice systems utilized by both Wing and tenant organizations on the base. Manages customer IT requirements to meet operational, training, and readiness missions. Ensures viable training programs are developed for assigned functions.

  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Must be certified IAW DOD 8570.01-M, Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002, Clinger Cohen Act of 1996 and current AF directives.
  • Conducts travel to and from offsite worksite(s) from the normal work area to perform assigned duties. This may include Operating Locations (OL) and/or Geographically Separated Units (GSU).
  • Position covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • THE INCUMBENT SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN CERTIFICATION. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE OUTLINED IN DOD INSTRUCTION 8570.01-M.

Qualifications

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: MSGT to SMSgt are eligible to apply. Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position in the following AFSC upon date of hire: AFSC 1D7XXX. Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate

Specialized Experience: Must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent) in the competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities listed. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
  • Skill to plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Knowledge to provide technical expertise and management oversight, in the installation, administration, optimization, and operation of multiple large and enhanced complex networks and communication systems.
  • Skill to develop and recommend technical solutions to mission and customer requirements.
  • Skill to lead technical team efforts for contract proposal reviews and independently determines adequacy of vendor ability to perform requested service or delivery of requirements.
