The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and assistance for the smooth operation of the Fitness Center Program to include customer service, monitoring customer entry, maintaining facility requirements for fire, safety, health and cleanliness, initiating and maintaining files, and assisting with manager on duty and scheduling task. **Salary ranges include local market supplements.**

Duties

Help

  • Assure policies and rules are adhered to by various customers and patrons and maintains equipment and facilities.
  • Provide customer service to patrons and perform assigned duty tasks. Monitor those entering the facility, greet customers and permit only those people on official business to remain in the facility.
  • Clean and maintain all the areas in the Fitness facilities not cleaned and maintained by contract cleaners and perform laundry duties.
  • Organize and manage athletic fields for Commanders Cup and Special Events.

  • Requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Must meet and maintain applicable eligibility criteria IAW AFI 34-266, Air Force Fitness and Sports Programs.
  • Position requires physical dexterity and ability, heavy physical exertion (lifting up to 50 pounds), and exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Limited typing may be required, as needed. A qualified typist is not required.

Qualifications

This is a GG-05 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-05 duties for the "Technician/Administrative Support" work category are at the "Entry/Developmental" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-05 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE (for positions at GS-04 and above)

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities.
  • Teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities.
  • Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service.
  • Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities.
  • Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children).
  • Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop.
  • Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility.
  • Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities.
OR

For GS-5: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: knowledge of basic or commonly used rules, procedures, and operations that typically require some previous training or experience including principles and techniques of recreation and the methods involved with fitness and sports programs. Knowledge of the assigned equipment within the fitness center, entailing how equipment functions and required equipment safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of Air Force Instructions (AFIs), DoD/MAJCOM directives, local policies and various regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of unit fire, safety, and building security regulations. Knowledge of clerical procedures is needed to accurately complete, review and maintain Fitness Center records such as equipment checkout, court reservations, and patron database. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.

TION: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of recreations and knowledge of the methods involved with fitness and sports programs.
  • Knowledge of the assigned equipment within the fitness center, how it functions, and required safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of and ability to apply unit fire, safety, and building security regulations.
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and ability to accurately complete, review, and maintain records.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret Air Force Instructions, DoD/MAJCOM directives, local policies and various regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others and contend with a range of problems common to a fitness and sports environment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED:
  • Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel Systems (DCIPS) position implemented under Section 504, Title V of Public Law 99-569, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1987, as codified in Sec 1601, Chap 83 of Title 10 United States Code which sets forth Air Force policies and procedures for DCIPS. This position is in the Excepted Service.
