About the Position: Ice Harbor Project is a multi-purpose hydropower project with missions that include facility operations and maintenance for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, navigation locks, fish facility with two fish ladders, recreation and natural resources management.

Duties

Help
  • Develops and presents any one or more of the following: campfire and water safety programs, nature walks, amphitheater programs and other outdoor activities, dam tours, cultural history demonstrations, and slide-show presentations.
  • Inspects campgrounds, picnic areas, Government buildings, trails, roads, water shores and parking areas: monitoring visitor use, inspecting the quality of operations and services, and identifying additional recreation needs.
  • Prepares portions of seasonal or weekly work plans, including estimates of materials, supplies and employees needed for routine projects.
  • Oversees specific work projects around the project utilizing the available manpower of volunteers, contract labor crews and/or summer hire employees.
  • Patrols the project's recreation areas, camping grounds, picnicking sites and water areas.
  • Enforces the Project's policies, rules and regulations by issuing warnings and/or citations when visitor violations are encountered.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation, ER 1130-2-550, dated 15 November 1996.
  • Must wear appropriate safety gear and protective clothing as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a state driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.
  • Position may require working nights and/or weekends.
  • Required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 44 lbs., traverse rough or uneven terrain, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Preemployment physical is required.
  • Must be able to withstand extreme stress during situations when human life may be at stake.
  • Required to have or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, a valid CPR certificate and Responding to Emergencies (or equivalent) certificate.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience administering natural resources and/or outdoor recreation programs and experience in park operations, such as campground reservations, fee collection; park maintenance, such as fire ring maintenance, campground cleaning; and park rules enforcement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: At least 1 full year of graduate education related to the occupation and a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related course work such as - natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. -OR- I have a bachelor's degree as described above with Superior Academic Achievement based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcript.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification purposes.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • This is a full-time, seasonal position, employment will be approximately March through November. Non-Pay status December through February.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
