About the Position: This position is located at Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning, GA.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation, utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Performs pre-admission/pre-certification duties.
  • Conducts pre-admission processing of all non-active-duty Uniformed Services beneficiaries scheduled for inpatient treatment or same day surgery.
  • Interviews the patient concerning insurance coverage, obtains as much information as possible, and explains and markets the Third-Party Collection Program (TPCP) to the patient.
  • Prepares and processes insurance claims and other billing documents.
  • Analyzes Accounts Receivable for assigned claims to determine status of claims errors or obstacles that could delay/prevent payment.
  • Reviews payments and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) received from the insurance companies.
  • Performs office automation duties.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position may require a seasonal Influenza vaccination that is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This is a DOD Financial Management position.
  • The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes resolving insurance billing discrepancies; entering and retrieving data within healthcare systems; utilizing medical terminology for claims coding; and maintaining suspense records for billing and correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
