The Conservation Specialist provides technical help and support for the conservation department as they care for and study the collection, maintaining the highest standards of practice.
As the Conservation Specialist, you will:
Assist with the examination, condition reporting and selected treatment of works of art.
Take x-rays and digital images.
Assist with the organization of conservation documentation by uploading files and maintaining databases.
Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment.
Research new products and artist materials.
Purchase supplies and materials for the department.
Plan and prepare for complex conservation treatments; assists in preparing and testing materials used in treatments.

Qualifications
You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service.
For the GS-09, applicants can substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position.
Submission of transcripts is required if substituting education.

Specialized Experience at the GS-09:
Experience managing inventory databases
Experience utilizing safety precautions when handling chemicals such as organic solvents.
