This position serves as operations coordinator and supports the coordination, logistical support, and dispatch of emergency resources across the nation, which includes all lands administered by various federal and state agencies.
Applications will be accepted from any U.S. citizen. Direct Hire Authority will be used to fill this position. Veterans Preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants does not apply to this vacancy.
Coordinate emergency resources and assist with the overall execution of activities of the Operations Section of the Geographic Area Coordination Center.
Provide operational oversight, guidance, and limited supervision for up to ten support/ supervisory dispatchers and other support personnel.
Participate in allocating resources and prioritizing incidents during periods of fire and non-fire activity and prescribed/planned fires.
Coordinate the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources; ensure appropriate safety measures are taken.
Coordinate with federal and state agencies for ordering resources through the national dispatch system to support national emergencies.

Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GW-11 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GW-9 grade level in the Federal Service, OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).
Examples of Specialized Experience: Assisting in the coordinating of the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of resources for fire and non-fire incidents. Assisting in developing operating manuals, handbooks, and guides, standard operating procedures, and training in the safe and effective mobilization of resources. Assisting in gathering predictive services information and analysis, current activity, national activity, and situational awareness to plan, coordinate, and direct center services.
Must have experience performing on-the-line (Primary/Rigorous) wildland fire suppression duties as a member of an organized fire suppression crew or comparable unit that utilized knowledge of wildland fire suppression, containment or control techniques and practices under various conditions. This experience must be documented with specific dates in the online application or resume.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a secondary firefighter position under 5 USC 8336 (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). Prior wildland firefighting experience is required. There is no age limit for entry into secondary positions. Firefighter retirement coverage of the incumbent depends upon his or her individual work history.
