Duties

Help
  • Works well in a team setting to support the efforts of other maintenance worker, rangers, and volunteer park staff. Provides support to all aspects of flood risk management, recreation, and environmental stewardship business lines.
  • Repairs, replaces/installs standard plumbing fixtures. Opens clogged drains using snakes, plungers, or chemicals. Repacks/replaces washers, traps, and similar fixtures. Inspects pipes/plumbing systems for leaks.
  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls. Knowledge of accepted carpentry and plumbing trade methods/techniques.
  • Uses common measuring devices for carpentry, plumbing, and electric trades to establish material needs and determine estimated quantities.
  • Ability to interpret shop drawings, blueprints, vehicle, and equipment maintenance manuals.
  • Operates diesel, gasoline, or electric powered vehicles, various hand tools such as leaf blowers, mowers, and vibrating compactors. Operates dump truck, and tractors with attachments.
  • Knowledge of accepted surface preparation and coating methods/techniques. Must have skill in blending coating materials and combining agents with coating materials.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Required to wear protective equipment and clothing such as hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, chain saw chaps, etc.
  • Required to lift objects weighing up to and occasionally, in excess, of 40 pounds.
  • Required to wear a Corps of Engineers uniform.
  • Seasonal employees are subject to periodic layoff and recall. The incumbent is required to sign a Seasonal Employment Agreement as a condition of employment.
  • This position requires Participation in Medical Surveillance program to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability, or fitness.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 without more than normal supervision performing tasks such as routine and non-routine maintenance and repair. (1) Must be able to perform facility maintenance duties such as facility maintenance systems and building repair to include painting surface prep; (2) Operating diesel and gasoline or electric powered vehicles including leaf blowers, mowers, and vibrating compactors; (3) Working with other staff to repair and maintain recreation facilities and enhance environmental stewardship assets; and (4) Providing support to staff to conduct inspections, make repairs, or adjustments to the facilities at the project.

Physical Efforts: The work requires considerable standing, walking, bending, climbing, and the lifting of objects up to and occasionally in excess of 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: The work is performed both indoors and outside. The employee is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, burns, falls, electrical shock, and other injuries. There is considerable exposure to dust, dirt, grease, oil, and noise. The employee is required to wear protective equipment and clothing which may be uncomfortable.

Education

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
