This is a Indefinite/Temporary appointment, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Current Technicians selected will retain the appointment status currently in, (i.e., Permanent or Indef) and will be placed on a temporary promotion or appropriate personnel action if selected for this position. Conversion to permanent status may be accomplished when permanent funding is approved.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Joint Force Headquarters (State) (JFHQ-ST) force protection security specialist for anti-terrorism and related physical and operations security policy and issues, handling of law enforcement sensitive information, managing assigned program areas, directing studies and reviewing, revising and implementing force protection policy and projects.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an INDEFINITE excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Level II Anti-Terrorism training preferred.
  • Must obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.

Qualifications

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is a Title 32 INDEFINITE excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard.

Military Grades: 03 to 04

Compatible Military Assignments: MOS IMMATERIAL

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. must have the experiences, education, or training that demonstrates the ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 12 months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11). Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels.

Education

Army National Guard Officer: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory. The college degree work should include completed academic courses in sociology, criminology, police administration, criminal justice, or a related area. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
