Help
  • Plan and coordinate project activities for large-scale demographic survey research and analysis.
  • Provide guidance and advice for various methodological issues such as imputation and weighting methods to account for nonresponse
  • Guide staff in writing and running computer programs to perform production processes, analysis, research and evaluation activities
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and management of staff to meet the goals and objectives of statistical analysis, research, and evaluation projects and programs.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Requirement: A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Note: To receive credit for coursework that is not catalogued on the transcript as Statistics or contain 'statistics' in the course title, applicants must attach a copy of an official course description that clarifies the course has statistical content, or written documentation which must be on official school letterhead from a professor or a school official verifying that the content of the course has either met the 50 percent statistics course requirements or was a statistical course.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Developing, directing, and coordinating the application of mathematical statistical techniques to design and oversee statistical programs in the Demographic fields; Developing and conducting intensive research and statistical compilation of data; and utilizing statistical and survey methods, including frames, sample designs, methods of collection, quality control, evaluation, and estimation procedures. Provide leadership, supervision, and management of staff to meet the goals and objectives of statistical analysis, research, and evaluation projects and programs.

Education: Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-14 grade.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
