Duties

Help
  • You will plan and perform audits of shipyard work, analyze data on shipyard quality performance, and managing the quality programs used to ensure quality assurance.
  • You will evaluate and assess program and/or organizational performance in the major areas of naval ship repair.
  • You will prepare reports to document the results of assessments, audits, surveillances, or evaluations, assigns actions to correct deficiencies.
  • You will analyze quality data from various departments and shops that are used to measure, assess, and control the quality of work processes and work products in the shipyard.
  • You will plan and conduct training for personnel at all levels from production, engineering, and other departments and offices on quality assurance requirements or on the performance of audits, and surveillances.
  • You will provide management level advice and guidance in quality assurance for all major programs in ship repair and maintenance.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Plans, performs, and leads audits, assessments, surveillances, or reviews to determine the adequacy; AND effectiveness of the quality management, involves participation with production, engineering, and other activities in reviewing their plans and procedures for assuring quality and reliability of their products, including the inspections and test procedures utilized for quality control.

The incumbent may be assigned to worn areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, Ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc.

On occasions, the incumbent may be required to work in areas of poor footing, high altitudes, around operating machinery, or other potentially hazardous areas. The areas may be within confines of buildings, ships, or outside location exposed to weather.

The incumbent may be assigned to worn areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents

radiation, chemicals, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, the shipyard maintains personnel protection
programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls,
training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment and medical surveillance. As part of medical
surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his or her medical
qualification for duty Involving work with these agents.

The work involves both desk work and field work. He/she will have extended periods of walking, standing, or
bending while getting to different worksites both in other industrial buildings and in submarines and surface ships.
The incumbent observes actual repair, maintenance, and manufacturing operations, as well as, witnesses' tests or
examinations of material and processes.

In addition to those duties which are accomplished in an office setting, the nature of the work requires that the
incumbent may be exposed to potentially dangerous situations. The work requires knowledge, application, and
use of applicable equipment (e.g., breathing respirators, etc.) end strict adherence to work procedures and safety
precautions to avoid hazards. On occasions, the incumbent may be required to work in areas of poor footing,
high altitudes, around operating machinery, or other potentially hazardous areas. The areas may be within
confines of buildings, ships, or outside location exposed to weather.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
