Physical Effort
Approximately 60% of the work is sedentary in an office environment and about 40% involves work on the airfield.
Activities in the field require walking moderate distances and operating a government vehicle.
In the performance of mechanical duties, the work involves lifting and pulling heavy objects, walking and getting into awkward positions to calibrate/adjust arresting gear equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both office and field environment. Work in the field is outdoors in/around the airfield, and may involve moderate risks that may require special safety precautions for noise, munitions, and moving aircraft. Specific personal protective gear is required including: safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat or ear plugs.
Work schedule (40 hours per week) may require night, weekend and holiday shifts.
Incumbent must:
1. Must have sufficient mechanical skills to comprehend charts, diagrams and maintenance manuals.
2. Must have ability to perform engine tune-ups/adjustments and timing engine according to established specifications.
3. General knowledge of Arresting Gear Operation Maintenance Overhaul Instructions, 3M-PMS schedule maintenance procedures and other applicable instructions, directives and guides.
