Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is to inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.

  • Determines test method, and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection.
  • Interprets nondestructive inspection test results, and provides information about defects to repair center.
  • Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems.
  • Applies magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts.
  • Parts are numerous and varied, and are of ferrous and/or nonferrous metals, and consist of surface or near surface discontinuities in the metal.
  • Uses and maintains tools.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintains records and documents actions.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a ND Air National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND Air National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May be required to possess a valid operator’s license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
  • May be required to obtain an appropriate clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas.
  • Technicians are required to perform annual task evaluations on each inspection duty in order to maintain certification.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the experience which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant mustpossess 18 months of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies, and recommending courses of action for items of equipment; 2) Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures; 3) Utilize current techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws.
