Help
  • Checks for property and/or part number, nomenclature, quantity and condition for agreement with accompanying documents; conducts location audits; conducts final checking of outgoing shipments.
  • Operates material handling equipment such as labor savers, low lift walkers, riders, and non-riders, and tractors (electric and gas) to move materials.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, or other conveyances, assuring that conveyance is suitable and load is properly secured for safe transportation.
  • Performs driver's maintenance and daily inspections, in accordance with established rules and regulations.
  • Verifies improper warehousing, infestation, deterioration, improper identifications, mixed stocks, pilferage, and similar conditions; reports issues to the supervisor.

  • Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
  • Selectee must undergo a background investigations for a Secret Clearance.

  • Strength test may be required.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
  • Working Conditions: Duties are performed in adequately lighted, heated and ventilated area.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Materials Handler (Forklift Operator), KX-6907-06 position, applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element: #1 - Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration.
In addition to the SCREENOUT, applicants must also have the ability to perform the following:
Possesses knowledge of proper wrapping, packing, labeling, and weighing procedures, requirements, and methods.
Inspects product loads for accuracy and safely moves products through facility.
Operates forklift trucks.
Reads and interprets work jackets; follow written and oral instructions.
Performs routine operator maintenance and daily maintenance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Work Life Balance:
The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret Clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.

The selectee will work Shift 1 or 3.
Shift details are defined as follows:
1st shift hours 7:00 am - 5:15 pm Monday - Thursday, worked as four days a week,10 hours a day.
3rd shift hours 9:00 pm - 7:15 am Monday - Thursday, worked as four days a week,10 hours a day.
