Duties

Help

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Meets public and records the arrival of all patients reporting to Prosthetics. Informs Orthotic Lab staff of the arrival of scheduled appointments. Distributes stock to eligible veterans and posts stock issues to the Prosthetic VISTA programs.
  • Examines clinical health record, claim folders, and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services, advises veterans of the same. Identifies priorities on pending requests to comply with VA Central Office mandated five (5) day deadline. Insures that pending requests are posted to the suspense log and enters data to verify the workload statistics used to facility funding for Prosthetic Treatment Center.
  • The incumbent uses office automation equipment such as an electric typewriter, computer, word processor. facsimile machines, ADP equipment (keyboard and visual display), calculator, copies, and telephones to effectively communicate with others. produce forms and complete correspondence.
  • The incumbent is responsible for entering data used in preparing and submitting numerous facility Central Office reports: Prosthetic Order Report, and the VACO national Prosthetic Patient Database, NPPD/Obligation/Expenditure Report.
  • The incumbent assists in administrating the following specialized programs within the service to: scheduling of appointments and authorizing travel, completion of appropriate forms and referrals as required.
  • Through personal interviews, phone conversations, and letters the incumbent determines veteran's eligibility for prosthetic appliances and/or services.
  • Proficient with medical, prosthetics, and orthotic terminology.

  • Attends scheduled training sessions and participates in facility or service level safety promotions.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The stress encountered throughout the workday in coordinating the delivery of prosthetic appliances and/or services with physicians, social workers, therapist, seriously ill. and severely disabled veterans and their families, vendors, and the arranging delivery for health care and life support equipment is an unavoidable aspect of the position.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.GS-5: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:



GS-05 grade level experience: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Use of office equipment, scheduling patient appointments, and records/file management.

OR

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. You must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite? (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application)

OR

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. Must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.(Transcripts must be submitted at time of application)
