Duties

Help
  • Plan and coordinate the activities of security guards, through subordinate supervisors, to insure the maintenance of stringent physical security standards, enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, official orders and regulations.
  • Control movement of personnel and vehicles through the installation access control points.
  • Inspect personnel for appearance, condition of weapons and equipment, knowledge of duties, and manner of performance.
  • Develop training courses based on regulatory requirements and supervise necessary training for guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage and other organized subversive actions.
  • Perform managerial and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.
  • Develop manning and budget requirements for the Guard operations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 3 - Secret Clearance.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Position is subject to drug random drug testing.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Position requires an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Position requires maintaining current certifications in CPR techniques.
  • Position requires the wearing of chemical protection gear , and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Position requires maintaining physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
  • Position requires wearing of the Department of Army Security Guard uniform.
  • Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Incumbent must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1)Protection of government and personal property; control of access of personnel and vehicles to the installation enforcement federal, state, and local laws and official orders and regulations AND 2) performance of supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force, and providing advice or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
