Duties

Help
  • Conducts final checks on new and prototype weapon systems.
  • Tests weapon materials and components during the manufacturing process.
  • Examines foreign weapons and creates reports on their design.
  • Inspects used weapons returned from the field and recommends fixes.
  • Checks the quality of manufacturing tools and measurement gauges.
  • Performs high-pressure and stress tests on weapon breech systems.
  • Advises engineers on the best ways to build and inspect weapon parts.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MACHINE TOOL WORK INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision. ???????I am skilled in: Performing final acceptance and evaluation of prototype and complex weapon systems; Conducting in-process inspections and specialized testing; Providing technical guidance to engineering and production teams; and using complex hydraulic equipment to execute pressure and gymnastication tests confirming all safety and performance standards. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) [specific date or number of years] by a current 3 permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lift of 45 lbs. and over. * Requires good vision to work to close tolerances.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally done inside in areas that are air conditioned, well lit, heated, and ventilated or in machine shop areas. May work outside or in areas that are drafty, hot, poorly lighted, noisy, and dirty. Subject to grease, coolants, and possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
