  • You will prepare consolidated program documents for review by Operations Project Manager (OPM)
  • Prepare concept plans for needed recreation facility rehabilitation, additions and new construction.
  • Serve as an Ordering Officer to make over-the-counter purchases or telephone orders, within approved limits, using the Government purchase card.
  • Coordinate work with other Federal agencies, local volunteers, and interested/affected state, local and county government officials to obtain cooperation in accomplishing program goals.
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of environmental assessments or impact statements.
  • Insure that contract billings are verified, and incidents of deficient work are documented and reported to the Operations Project Manager (OPM)
  • Attend inter-agency and public meetings related to Corps activities and problems common to the involved participants to resolve problems of land utilization, recreation, maintenance and development.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must acquire designation as ordering officer under the Government Purchase Card program within 12 months.
  • Position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • May be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.
  • Must receive a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection/unarmed self-defense, situational evaluation, and tactical communication training within two years of employment.
  • Required to obtain a USACE boat operator license within 12 months.
  • Required to wear a USACE uniform.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and blood-borne pathogen training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (0401):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading and mentoring others AND two (2) of the following: a) Administering the conservation/use of natural resources; b) Implementing plans for the construction/improvement of facilities; c) Developing/administering service/minor construction contracts.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages
