Duties

Help
  • You will formulate, produce, and maintain training curricula, plans, materials, tools and reports that requires research and testing of Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH).
  • You will assist Service Level Administrators and program managers to evaluate and manage the Navy use of DOEHRS-IH system and continue working towards program improvement.
  • You will exercise mature judgement and resourcefulness in developing materials and various approaches to provide technical training in industrial hygiene methodologies, quality, and accuracy for the control of potential health hazards.
  • You will provide expertise as a specialist in the development, review, and monitoring of Industrial Hygiene program elements as it affects Navy Medical activities missions worldwide.

Qualifications

GS11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience training military and civilian Occupational Health Personnel in the use of the DOEHRS-IH system;
  • Experience in managing DOEHRS-IH user accounts within an organization;
  • Experience participating in the testing of DOEHRS-IH system updates;
  • Experience providing counseling and assistance to classroom or online participants;
  • Experience creating and developing training plans, materials, tools, and reports;
  • Experience arranging and scheduling training based on input from DOEHRS-IH SLAs or industrial hygiene subject matter experts;
  • Experience performing comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys and assessments.
GS12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience training military and civilian Occupational Health Personnel in the use of the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) system;
  • Experience assisting the DOEHRS-IH Service Level Administrators (SLAs) in managing user accounts;
  • Experience participating in the testing of DOEHRS-IH system updates;
  • Experience in the use of DOEHRS-IH data entry, data administration, troubleshooting use issues, and requesting changes to system design, function and/or use.
  • Experience coordinating procurement and/or development of DOEHRS-IH or other industrial hygiene related course work, and arranging, organizing, and executing classroom and online training;
  • Experience providing counseling and assistance to classroom or online participants;
  • Experience creating and developing training plans, materials, tools, and reports;
  • Experience planning and developing training schedules; knowledge of performing comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys and assessments.

Individual Occupational Requirements

Basic Requirements

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH)).

Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.

Evaluation of Education

All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Evaluation of Experience

Qualifying experience involves the recognition, evaluation, corrective actions, and elimination of environmental conditions in the workplace that causes sickness, impaired health, or illness. This experience must demonstrate a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls.

Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.
