Duties

Help
  • Maintain applicant's medical records during the examination process.
  • Manage medical consultations to include verifying doctor's orders.
  • Ensure safety requirements are met for the proper use, storage, and disposal of needles and medical equipment.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples.
  • Review unique medical forms for proper format, coding and completion.
  • Monitor and maintain stock level of medical supplies and restock as necessary.
  • In-process applicants, verify identity using previously captured biometrics (digital fingerprints and photographs).
  • Prepare packages and ship specimens to testing laboratory.
  • Conduct standardized medical orientation briefings to applicants.
  • Maintain control logs, custody logs and rosters, and treatment center referral list in accordance with regulations and policies.
  • Assist applicants on completion of a variety of forms required for physical examination.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a color perception (vision) examination.
  • Must be physically able to perform (demonstrate) and evaluate military physical aptitude (maneuvers) tests.
  • Must use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves; cannot wear exposing footwear.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS Systemwithin 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of experience which includes: Assisting with physical examinations (i.e., optical, audiometric tests, electrocardiogram, and/or urine collection/processing) of applicants/patients; Performing phlebotomy to obtain blood samples while ensuring all safety precautions are followed; Operating medical equipment (i.e., audiometers, stereoscopic vision testers, and/or centrifuges) for various types of medical examinations/procedures; Documenting the medical information of patients to ensure the completion and accuracy of information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education Substitution for GS-06: Successful completion of at least one-half year (9 semester hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field directly related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.)

OR

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. In order to qualify for this position, based on your education, education substitution, or combination of education and experience, you must have either completed the education requirement, or will complete this requirement within 30 days from the closing date of this announcement. If you will not complete this requirement within 30 days from the closing date of this announcement, you will be rated as Not Qualified for this position.

You must provide appropriate documentation to reflect when you will meet the education requirement. Appropriate documentation includes: (1) Resume indicating your projected completion/graduation date; (2) Transcripts indicating your projected completion/graduation date; (3) A letter signed by the institution's registrar indicating your projected completion/graduation date.
