Summary

This position is in the Office of International Coordination (OIC). OIC coordinates international activities within FSIS and is the agency point of contact for foreign and U.S. federal agencies for those activities. It ensures FSIS's international and domestic policies are coordinated and consistent with international trade agreements, and collaborates with technical staff to it ensures FSIS policies and procedures are communicated to foreign countries.

Duties

Help
  • Responsible for ongoing and special administrative duties and evaluate projects assigned by the supervisor or initiated by the employee to meet management and technical staff needs and the necessary coordination, liaison, and correspondence.
  • Practices intense organizational and planning skills by assisting leadership and technical staff to achieve FSIS mission and vision with the integration of regulatory, inspection, and enforcement programs for food safety and procedures.
  • Assists technical staff with managing and organizing projects and associated data related to day-to-day internal technical engagements and operations with a focus on food safety related activities to ensure organizational support.
  • Applies working knowledge and understanding of information technology data systems and networks, for purposes of day-to-day technical information management and tracking and provide guidance to staff on use of these systems.
  • Assists management and technical staff with technology and information management at internal and external meetings and conferences, using group meeting software.
  • Assists the OIC in the planning and execution of in person and virtual meetings and events, including managing virtual presentations using information technology systems.
  • Prepares findings, reports, briefing papers and other written materials regarding international food safety public health issues impacting FSIS on behalf of OIC management and technical staff.
  • Assists the office by creating and developing talking points, PowerPoint presentations, correspondence, and other written materials in support of OIC technical projects and operations to assist with the operations of the office.
  • Remains aware of any FSIS food safety updates that may impact OIC and international food safety and assists in creating and providing training or webinars on behalf of technical staff for outside stakeholders.
  • Exercises a broad knowledge of administrative services software and data tracking systems to assist with the organization and tracking of all office projects, information, and correspondence.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-7 grade level for consideration for the GS-9 grade level).

GS-9 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-7 level) that demonstrates: Experience in working on multiple projects with different deadlines and reporting updates to management and/or supervisors; has experience in working on written reports related to food safety or international public health; experience in organizing, coordinating and/or planning virtual meetings or presentations related to food safety or international public health. Experience assisting with organizing projects related to food safety or international public health.

GS-11 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-9 level) that demonstrates: Experience working multiple projects with short deadlines and reporting updates to management and/or supervisors; has experience in organizing and writing reports and/or findings related to food safety or international public health; experience in organizing, coordinating, and presenting information at virtual meetings and/or presentations related to food safety or international public health. Experience assisting with organizing projects, associated data, and technical engagements and operations related to food safety or international public health.

GS-12 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that demonstrates: Experience working multiple projects with short deadlines and with different deadlines and reporting updates to management and/or supervisors, and ensuring deadlines are met; experience in organizing, writing and reviewing reports, briefing papers and/or findings related to international food safety or international public health; experience in organizing, coordinating and preparing information for presentations at virtual meetings and/or presentations related to international food safety or international public health. Experience assisting with organizing projects, associated data, and technical engagements and operations related to international food safety or international public health.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
