Duties

Help
  • Serve as Medical Services Officer located within the Fire and Emergency Services Division, Directorate of Emergency Services, Installation Management Command.
  • Ensure constant readiness of fire department personnel and equipment.
  • Assist in administration, planning and training activities of the department.
  • Manage fire prevention, fire protection, and emergency services program division with the use of shift leaders.
  • Perform supervisory duties as an Emergency Medical Responder supervising and assisting personnel of the department.
  • Perform the full range of personnel management and supervisory duties and responsibilities.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent must wear uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • The work requires the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
  • Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, i.e., mandatory overtime; subject to recall to duty.
  • Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
  • This position is subject to a one year probation to assess your ability to perform Supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience of which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Performing firefighting tasks involving burning structures, equipment, Facilities, crashes and burning aircraft, wildland fires, vehicle fires and spilled or burning hazardous materials; 2) Responding on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses; 3) Conducting patient examinations involving prioritizing treatments for patients with multiple problems; and 4) Responding to emergencies involving hazardous materials.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-10 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certification, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications:

  • Fire Officer III
  • Fire Instructor II
  • Fire Inspector II
  • HAZMAT Incident Commander
  • Paramedic (must meet state Paramedic certification requirements)
  • Airport Firefighter

Education
