Overview of the United States Attorney's Office-Northern District of Indiana- The United States Attorney's Office is the chief law enforcement office in the district and is responsible for representing the federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the Northern District of Indiana. This includes criminal prosecutions for violations of federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers. The U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Northern District of Indiana is one of 94 USAOs in the nation. Our branches are located in Fort Wayne, Hammond and South Bend.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana is currently soliciting applications for a Records Information Management Specialist in the Administrative Division.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the USAO=s records management program.
  • Develops, publishes, and evaluates management control systems and procedures applicable to staff and contractors with regard to the handling, storing or disposing of federal records.
  • Performs identification of federal records and provides instructions on proper maintenance of such records in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the preparation of files for shipment to the federal records center (FRC), including adherence to quality control standards to distinguish agency records from non-record materials, and insuring use of shipping protocols established by regulation and procedure.
  • Provides analytical advice and assistance to staff and contractors with respect to individual, or case-related, records management issues.
  • Provides direct supervision of the District's Docketing Unit.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To be eligible at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience performing records management operations and providing records management guidance and training to staff; monitoring internal controls to ensure the organization's compliance in regards to the handling, storing, or disposal of federal records; providing analytical projects and assignments involving official federal records including official electronic media; and serving as the organization's point of contact for the coordination, responses, and training related to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA).
