Duties

Help

  • Production superintendent directs the overall maintenance effort of their unit.
  • Participates in establishing the monthly and weekly maintenance plans.
  • Reviews work in progress or upon completion for compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes and enforces safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • May be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
  • May be required to possess a valid operator's license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • May have to occasionally travel away from normal duty station and may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • A pre-employment physical examination will be required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Administrative and Management Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations, component production operations, and other necessary maintenance support requirements to support the mission; Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluate methods and techniques to study the efficiency and cooperation of the various division organizations in working together to produce an adequate level of support to flying operations or to ensure that aircraft are ready for flying operations in a timely manner; Skill in conducting detailed analysis of complex maintenance functions and work processes to detect problems in maintenance operations and procedures.

EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. NOTE: You must submit a copy of Transcripts.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of the maintenance, modification, and repair of various types of complex aviation components and equipment on a combat or strategic fixed/rotary wing aircraft.
  2. Knowledge of the activity, staff, support operations, manpower, equipment, supplies, and materials, etc., to develop short- and long-range plans and schedules of maintenance workloads.
  3. Knowledge, understanding, and use of aircraft equipment and components terminology, data, and standards, and how to relate them to needs of missions.
  4. Knowledge and experience to observe and analyze production operations to determine if schedules are being followed, improved, and to determine the causes of production delays.
  5. Knowledge of quality assurance sufficient to comply with Air Force directives and guidelines. Knowledge and understanding of the pertinent directives to the function and established priorities based on scheduled inspections, equipment outages, mission requirements, and training schedules.
  6. Knowledge and in-depth understanding of the capabilities of equipment possessed and of the specialty shops, and all possible work sequences available in the production facility to ensure that all maintenance and production goals are attained expeditiously and economically with no degradation to the training or mission objectives. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
