The incumbent ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure by applying National Electrical Code standards, interpreting technical specifications, and maintaining building systems, while also supporting site operations such as snow removal during winter conditions.
Summary
NIST is seeking an Electrician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems and related equipment supporting the Boulder site's facilities and laboratories. The incumbent ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure by applying National Electrical Code standards, interpreting technical specifications, and maintaining building systems, while also supporting site operations such as snow removal during winter conditions.

- Perform a wide variety of assignments in connection with the maintenance of the electrical distribution system, which consists of voltages from 24 volts to 600 volts AC and the DC electrical distribution system.
- Maintain motor control systems, variable voltage, variable frequency (VVVF) drives, integrated lighting systems and controls.
- Utilize and apply National Electric Code (NEC) regulations to all maintenance and installation tasks.
- Plan work from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturer's instructions, or other specifications, and oral or written instructions, performing preventative maintenance on a variety of electrical equipment incidental to the NIST Boulder Site.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems and repair of a variety of electrical equipment such as fan motors, transformers, pumps, air-conditioning and heating equipment, external and internal building lighting systems, distribution panels, and connections for computer equipment, and lab equipment.
- Assist with site snow removal during winter operations which can include operating snow blowers, plows, heavy equipment and shovels to clear site walkways, parking lots and building entrances. Snow removal duties can be assigned out of hours or during normal business hours as the weather events occur.

Qualifications
There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform electrician duties, such as installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and components without more than normal supervision.
Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher.
