Duties

Help
  • You will collect fuel samples from tankers, bulk storage tanks, fill stands, nozzles, mobile refuelers, filters, and separators to conduct on site visual tests in accordance with current Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) instructions.
  • You will operate pumps with fixed flow rates and take the temperature of fuels at various different levels.
  • You will make safety checks on carbon dioxide equipment and electrical ground/ bonding cables.
  • You will operate the vehicle's auxiliary pumping system to dispense fuel which includes regulating the pumping pressure and the rate of fuel flow which varies with each type of aircraft being serviced.
  • You will serve on quick response for oil spills, tank ruptures, and leaks from barges, or other types of petroleum pollution.
  • You will perform daily operator maintenance and conduct daily inspection on the assigned vehicle to identify loose parts, worn tires, etc.
  • You will inspect and perform preventive maintenance of vehicle’s petroleum handling equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a flammable liquid certification.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Must attend the Airfield Vehicle operator Indoctrination Course (AVOIC) on an annual basis and maintain airfield vehicle operator's license.
  • Must POSSESS and be able to maintain a valid state driver's license and base driving privileges.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with hazardous material and tanker endorsements within 75 calendar days after entrance on duty.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Subject to a rotating seven-day-a-week, two-shifts-per-day schedule and may be required to rotate on all shifts.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Must successfully complete mandatory training requirements for this position.
  • Must adhere to all squadron, installation, and state safety rules at all times.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.

You will exert light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Exerts moderate physical effort to load or unload equipment (e.g., fuel hoses, hazardous material spill gear, etc.) weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with assistance from co-workers or material handling equipment.

May be required to make minor emergency repairs on the open highway.

Must be in good physical condition to be able to climb on tank cars, trucks, barges, fuel pits and tanks to the height of 33 feet.

May be exposed to dirt, fumes, cuts, bruises, etc., when loading, unloading, or transferring fuel; when performing operator and preventive maintenance; etc.

The worker operates vehicles in all kinds of weather and in a variety of traffic conditions including a controlled traffic environment on a government installation and in heavy traffic on state, county and city highways.
