Duties

Help

Receives and directs patients and visitors to laboratory service. Scans patient ID card, verifies patient identity and reviews electronic or written medical record for lab orders. Determines applicable orders for the patient and electronically receives/accessidns them. Contacts provider or designee for missing or unclear orders. Uses electronic printer to create specimen labels. Provides instructions for collection of specimens that will be
collected by the patient (urine, sputum, stool, etc.). Transports specimens to the laboratory testing area and distributes them appropriately to each section as indicated.
Provides information about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel. Provides general telephone and visitor referral services from patients and staff. Directs patients, visitors and staff and refers callers to appropriate staff member or department based on specific request or by ascertaining the nature of the call.
Conducts inventory, places orders and maintains supplies required to perform assigned tasks.
Keeps time and attendance records for the service.
Responsible for safeguarding private and sensitive data (electronic, verbal and/or printed) and access codes against unauthorized disclosure and used. Reports violations or suspected violations of such per established policy.
Responsible for promoting a culture of safety. Cooperates with efforts to improve patient safety and eradication of potential events that may result in actual or potential injury to a patient. Must comply with requirements to report incidents involving patient safety

Work Schedule: M-F 0730-1615 w/ rotating weekend and holidays. May be assigned to other tour to cover workload as needed

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/09/2026.

Experience: You must have at least 6 months of general experience that includes knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position successfully or experience that provided me with a familiarity with the subject or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation experience which includes experience in administrative work. proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, composition and the English language. Proficient in medical terminology. Minimum level computer experience in MS Word and VISTA.OR,

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level successful completion of one (1) year of education above high school is required. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.. OR,

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of general experience and education beyond high school.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small items or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
