Duties

Help

Serves as the Supervisory Recreation Assistant responsible for administrative, operational, and fiscal aspects of the year round aquatics program at JBSA Ft Sam Houston to include resource and work force management, program and event planning, and daily/seasonal operations of the indoor/outdoor pools as directed by the Chief, Fitness, Sports, and Aquatics. Assists with a wide variety of management and administrative tasks associated with operating a fully functional activity that is safe and enjoyable for all participants.

Establishes aquatic certification curriculum for lifeguard, lifeguard instructor, water safety instructor, water fitness instructor, and other safety, fitness and recreational certification and educational programming. Conducts all necessary coordination of various details for reoccurring and nonrecurring aquatic, fitness, instructional, and joint programs. Assists in establishing appropriate aquatic classes for individuals on the Army or AF FIP. Conducts aquatics facility tours for VIPs. Publicizes aquatic programs/events through local/public media channels.

Ensures that required safeguards and internal controls are present to prevent injuries and accidents in the pool areas, as well as loss of assets or property. Conducts regular inspections of equipment and natatorium conditions for proper preventative maintenance practices and generates work orders to address necessary maintenance and repairs. Oversees NAF and Real Property resources and serves as Aquatic Center expert providing input for major and minor construction projects. Assists in budget planning for equipment purchases and program planning.

Periodically reviews programs to ensure activities are meeting AFI requirements, customer needs, mission partner demands, and adhere to safe exercise principles. Researches current aquatic journal publications and provides sound, credible aquatic information/products to customers. Reviews AF/Base level directives, prepares/implements AOI's and updates regulatory guidance. Assists in the preparation of 502 FSS/Services and DoD Baseline Standards data call reports.

Ensures that necessary personnel, equipment, supplies, and services are available to accomplish assigned functions. Interviews and selects staff; provides orientation, training, and supervision. Approves leave requests, updates and maintains AF 971, and performs/recommends disciplinary functions in agreeance with established guidance. Establishes an annual plan for all staff training, incentive programs, and special events. Performs other duties and supervisory oversights as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have directly related work experience in planning, supervising, administering, and/or carrying out an indoor/outdoor aquatics program thatincludes swim lessons, lifeguarding, and water safety certification classes. This experience must have included financial and physical resourcemanagement and demonstrated ability to utilize available resources within a framework. Progressive experience must demonstrate knowledge of standardized rules, procedures, and operations. Lifeguarding certification is required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Be able to communicate both orally and writing.
2. Must have ability to supervise, train, and schedule subordinates.
3. Knowledge of pool safety and maintenance.
4. Ability to notice exterior/interior building deficiencies for replace or repair.
5. Knowledge of standardized rules, procedures, and operations.6. Ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position

Education
