Duties

Help

Serves as the Quality Assurance Controller for Environmental Management Service. Responsible for independently planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the quality assurance program requirements for the service, including the development of effective mechanisms for review and evaluation of key service functions.

Routinely collects data in the form of continuous performance monitors, such as ATP, Surfacide UV disinfection, Exam 4 Inspections, water safety logs, and Performance Logic software. Assesses the collected data, evaluate data and initiates problem-focused review as indicated through the monitoring process, after approval by the Chief, Environmental Management Service. Follow-up documentation is provided as required. Gathers data and information, as appropriate, for the Annual Management Briefing and prepares quarterly quality reviews addressing goals of the service, progress reports on QA Monitors and Risk assessments.

Prepares responses for Chief's signature/approval, to committees throughout the medical center on the status of Environmental Management's QA program as required. Incumbent ensures validity of all data collection mechanisms, alerting to problem areas and initiating solutions in providing information of the highest quality. Incumbent works closely with the Quality Assurance Manager for the Medical Center for compliance with Medical Center and JCAHO directives.

Uses Microsoft Office or other comparable software to develop and changereports, spreadsheets, to graphically display data, for tracking purposes and identify trends aswell as opportunities to improve the quality of service and operating efficiency of Environmental Management Service Textile care and uniform program. The incumbent uses MS PowerPoint or other comparable graphics software to develop presentation materials monthly supervisory and staff meetings as needed. The incumbent uses MS Word or comparable word processing software to execute office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files, generating reports and memorandums, creating correspondence for internal and external customers.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing administrative support, operating a personal computer, using a computer to process and analyze data, sorting and processing incoming correspondence, coordinating with others between various units and offices to accomplish work related projects, analyzing work flow to determine potential problem areas and making recommendations to correct, proofreading documents for grammatical errors, notifying others of pending appointments and meetings, and advising others on processes or procedures.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. NOTE: Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service. HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
