Summary

About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benet Labs) collocated with a manufacturing facility.

Duties

Help
  • Operates industrial waste disposal plants, which utilize three (3) separate processes to treat chrome plating and other acid and soluble wastes.
  • Controls flow rates to suit conditions.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs water and wastewater treatment systems and equipment.
  • Analyzes defects and determines the extent of repairs required.
  • Makes surveillance inspections of the industrial waste collection systems to assure compliance with pollution control regulations.
  • Utilizes testing tools such as PH Meters, water meters and mag meters to adjust chemical levels as prescribed.
  • This position is the "operator in charge" of the complete wastewater treatment plant.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Your resume must reflect experience which shows your Ability to do the work of an Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (INDUS EQUIP REPAIRER) without more than normal supervision which includes:? (1) Pretreatment and/or primary treatment of water, wastewater, industrial wastewater or solid waste systems; (2) Maintaining logs and/or records and /or other plant data in accordance with established procedures; (3) Conducting water and/or wastewater tests using various testing equipment and measuring devices such as PH meters, water meters, mag meters, and/or turbidity meters to perform tasks and; (4) Assisting in disassembling, repairing and/or rebuilding parts of plant machinery and/or equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Incumbent handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.
  • ???????Working Conditions: Incumbent usually performs work inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated and occasionally works outside for short periods of time where there is exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Flood and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily and slippery. Incumbent is frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises. Occasionally incumbent climbs and works from ladders and stagings exposing the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Exposed to constant noise, rotating machinery, dirt, grease, chemicals, oils and fumes in the work area. Works with and neutralizes potentially toxic chemicals. Uses various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, aprons, boots, coveralls, safety glasses, respirators, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
