Help
  • Code and process personnel actions; prepare pre-appointment packages; in-process employees.
  • Generate a wide variety of standard reports and provide advice and assistance regarding automated HR systems.
  • Establish, maintain, and utilize automated HR systems to perform administrative support functions.
  • Provide a variety of general information regarding recruitment program functions, processes, and procedures.
  • Process a full range of standard recurring HR actions such as career and career-conditional appointments, separations, pay changes, and excepted appointments for positions within the General Schedule, and other pay schedules.

Qualifications

The position of Human Resources Assistant (Office Automation) falls under the 0203 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-5, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 03/05/2026.


Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.

GS-05: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04, in the Federal service, which includes:
  • Providing administrative support;
  • Preparing, maintaining, or assembling files and records; and
  • Utilizing office automation systems to enter, retrieve, or manage data.

B. Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Must submit transcript).

C. A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience (Must submit transcript).
