Duties

Help

Reviews sketches, plans and other drawings; creates accurate layouts of work and determines material needs; may measure space for dimensions; works collaboratively to provide instruction, assistance and technical guidance to fellow Furnishings Artisans. Constructs complex cabinetry and other furniture and woodwork; operates a variety of tools such as table saws, shapers, lathes, routers, planers, and related powered equipment and hand tools to cut, mold, shape and turn wood, finish, join and fit pieces. Repairs office furniture. Installs cabinetry including freestanding and built-ins. Operates, cleans, and maintains Cabinet Shop equipment. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Five to ten years of experience in cabinetry and furniture building, with demonstrated progression of artistry and evidence of skill development over time.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the practices, techniques, and methods of woodworking and shaping; extensive knowledge of equipment setup and maintenance.
  • Ability to design, shape, and build complex cabinet and furniture projects with unique shapes and designs in a timely manner and with precise fit and joints.
  • Ability to cut and machine cabinet parts and components accurately and efficiently with minimal waste and error.
  • Ability to read and understand measured shop drawings and schematics with multiple views and sections; ability to calculate angles.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of power equipment and hand tools to achieve precise cuts and fits, decorative carvings, inlays, and timesaving templates and patterns.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in building, repairing, and maintaining cabinetry and furniture.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires frequent physical effort standing, bending, stooping, arm movement, hand-eye coordination, and precision.
  • Heavy lifting (carrying of items more than 50 pounds).
  • Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (chemicals, fumes), noise, and dust.
  • Work requires employee to wear uniforms (or gloves or other protective equipment besides a respirator).

Education

High school diploma (or GED).
