Duties

Help
  • You will perform periodic and random inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
  • You will advise supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous practices, processes and environmental conditions.
  • You will plan, organize, coordinate, direct, evaluate and conduct mishap investigation in accordance with current mishap prevention orders and directives.
  • You will provide technical safety training to installation and unit safety representatives, inspectors and their employees using a wide variety of methods and media.
  • You will establish, guide and encourage supervisor-employee safety committees to identify and eliminate hazardous equipment operations and unsafe working conditions.

  • Work requires employee to drive a vehicle and be able to commute to other sites and between facilities as required. A valid state Driver's license is required and must be maintained.
  • Work requires travel away from the normal duty station on a periodic basis.
  • Employee is required to successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You must be medically cleared to wear a respirator, fit tested and have no impairment that would prevent wearing of a respirator.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following Specialized Experience: The ability to apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. - Experience in administering and executing program requirements for one of more of the following special programs; Hearing Conservation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Lead and Asbestos, Confined Spaces, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Mishaps and Investigations, Radiation, Laser, and Ergonomics. - The ability to analyze and evaluate the safety programs of installation/tenant organizations aboard the base and advise and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of their programs. - The ability to perform periodic and unannounced/spot inspections to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations, to include identify, document, and track program deficiencies until abated. -The ability to provide technical safety training to safety representatives and base personnel, to include promotion of safety via presentations (e.g., safety stands downs, conferences, meetings, etc.) and production, publishing, and disseminationation of safety information to increase awareness. The ability to analyze identified hazards, mishaps, mishap trends, leading, and lagging indicators in order to create relevant status briefs and reports with statistical data and charts to convey program performance, gaps and weaknesses, and status to leadership.

Education

GS-09
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
Successfully completed an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
