Duties

Help

  • Performs all tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various types of equipment located in the collection systems
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders
  • Performs operator duties of a Wastewater Plant
  • Examines and troubleshoots general industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems to determine area(s) of difficulty
  • Performs preventative maintenance services
  • Uses and maintains tools
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Looking for a Full-Time Industrial Equipment Mechanic Wastewater Treatment Operator(WG-5352-10) to work at the 96 Test Wing, 96 Civil Engineer Group, 796 Civil Engineer Squadron, Infrastructure Flight (796 CES/CEOI) at Eglin AFB, in Florida, to serve as Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Wastewater Plant Operator to maintain, overhaul, and repair water treatment and distribution systems and industrial waste treatment equipment and collection systems. Will comply with all Air Force, EPA and Florida Department PF Environmental Regulations.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort:
Frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.

Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Subject to burns from chemicals. Occansionally, climbs and works from ladders and stagings, causing exposure to possbility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Exposure to sewer gas, acids, and chemical additives, hazards from infection, dirt, grease, and dampness. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, face shields, respirators, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
