Duties

Help

As a TRAINING TECHNICIAN, GS-1702-09, you will verify member eligibility, course availability, and validate school orders, travel orders, PCS procedures, and pre-requisites are properly complied in accordance with National Guard Bureau (NGB) guidance. Manage formal schools training budget, to include all formal schools and Mission Essential Skills Training (MEST). Assist in all aspects of Education, Training and Distance Learning Programs. Provide education and training advisory services to commanders and staff on all education and training programs. Assist with the development of education and training instructional products. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance of (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • Work may potentially require the employee to be exposed to search and recovery operations in direct response to a military mishap or when providing support to Civil Authorities during an Incident Response as part of domestic operations.
  • Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in the qualifications section of this announcement.
  • For entry into this specialty, prior qualification in any AFSC at the 5-skill level or higher (or 3-skill level if no 5-skill level exists) is required.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-5 (SSgt) through E-7 (MSgt)

Compatible Military Assignments: Any AFSC (at the 5-skill level or higher, or 3-skill level if no 5-skill level exists)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have the demonstrated ability to follow directions, read, understand, and retain instructions, regulations, and procedures that otherwise validate the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months experience or 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-7 with knowledge of Army or Air Force education and training programs regarding their principles and procedures; experience in performing interviews and counseling techniques; training techniques and instruction methods; task analysis procedures, learning processes, curriculum development, training evaluations, and education and training systems and products; effective writing skills; editing practices; instructional media application, training reporting, program and curriculum validation, and implementation procedures; experience in scheduling training events and facilities; supporting assistance visits and training meetings; or assisting in work center and individual job qualification standard development; education institution registration requirements; and military personnel classification system and policies; experience in the capabilities of communicative interpersonal skill applications and distance learning concepts; experience as a participant and presenter during training and military or civilian conference events.

This position is located in the Force Development Office with an Air National Guard (ANG) Wing, Mission Support Group, Force Support Squadron or Flight. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to schedule all formal initial skill, refresher and proficiency training for both officer and enlisted members, which include providing staff planning and multi-level assistance to ensure that required military training objectives are achieved for all assigned units.
