Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (Security) you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Cryptography Security Section--incumbent is responsible for the integration of cybersecurity planning, cryptography, COMSEC requirements and coordination within their assigned portfolio. This includes the prioritization of cybersecurity requirements, assessments and capability development efforts.
  • Incumbent will be responsible to ensure that, where required, certified National Security Agency (NSA) crypto products will be used across their portfolio Incumbent will coordinate and synchronize cybersecurity and encryption monitoring and defense across SDA systems and support efforts under their auspices.
  • Incumbent provides expert technical and managerial advice to the Battle Management Cell (BMC) Director and relevant Program Manager (PM) leadership within their portfolio as directed by the Cryptography Security Section Chief.
  • Recommends expert, efficient and effective technical directions and practices to meet the objectives and policies of the SDA Battle Management Cell. Ensures that the latest and most desirable developments in aerospace and related engineering fields, scientific procedures, foreign technology and threats are considered by BMC in development of the wide-band satellite communications (SATCOM) programs/policies.
  • Estimates and justifies required project resources. Supports the BMC Director in SDA efforts and coordinates as needed with NSA, NRO and other DOD agencies offices to ensure implementation of mutual objectives for systems introduced and deployed for SDA.
  • Recommends and reviews implementation plans, schedules, system designs, system and product evaluations for BMC Cryptography Security Section, and recommends methods for enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Builds working relationships within the DOD/Space community to ensure information sharing and collaboration to maximize lessons learned. Assesses potential problem areas impacting SDA COMSEC and recommends and tracks corrective actions to be developed and initiated. Conducts inspections, witness crypto tests, and attend vendors working groups, technical workshops, and other functions.

Qualifications

You must have one year Specialized Experience equivalent to the NH-4 level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private/military sector) giving the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Experience must be reflected in your resume.

Specialized experience required for this position is:

  • Advanced encryption concepts, principles, practices, methods, & techniques to provide recommendations/ exercise judgment concerning programs/operations; proposes solutions to leadership to resolve atypical or novel problems, conditions, or issues.
  • Ability to apply full range of cutting edge encryption and COMSEC practices, processes, and techniques.
  • COMSEC experience with experience at a COMSEC Operations Center a plus -- knowledge to build, deploy and manage encryption and COMSEC tools and services.
  • Experience operating as a Controlling or Command Authority.
  • Operational experience with encryption equipment is a plus.
