Duties

Help
  • Maintains ledger of numbered passports and cartons shipped.
  • Security wraps (tapes) each carton with re-enforced tape, and hand writes passport numbers on the labels.
  • Loads cartons onto skids and then bands and transports skids by hand operated power truck to the elevator and to the loading dock; Occasionally uses power trucks to transport skids.
  • Writes receipts and billing packing for each load shipped.
  • Checks to ensure that passport numbers correspond with labels.

  • Selectee must undergo a background investigation for a Secret Clearance.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify
  • Physical demands: reaching, bending, lifting cartons up to 35 lbs; frequent shoulder, arm, hand, and finger use; writing delivery receipts and passport numbers, keeping records, and sealing cartons with reinforced tape.
  • Physical Demands continued: Moderately, heavy physical effort is required in operating hand trucks, and handling skids. The work requires constant standing and/or walking. Moderately lifts items that weigh up to 60 lbs.
  • Work Conditions: The work is performed in a production environment, which is well-lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • Work conditions continued: Work is performed around noisy machines with moving parts. Care must be taken when moving materials through work areas to avoid material/equipment damage or bodily injuries.
  • Strength Test is required
  • Physical examination test is required
  • Training to operate a hand operated power truck.

Qualifications

To qualify for the PPW (Bindery), KX - 4402 - 4 , you must meet the following requirements:

(SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #1): Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KX-4402-4, without more than normal supervision, to be considered for this position.
Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a PPW (Bindery), KX-4402-4. These duties require: 1)possessing knowledge and technical skills to follow instructions, which include maintaining accurate records; 2) reading and writing simple arithmetic calculations; 3) working on machines to do simple adjustments using switches and knobs; and 4) possessing the skill in operating hand-operated power trucks.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (03/06/2026) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used or this grade level.

Work Life Balance
The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation:
For a Secret Clearance:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.

The selectee will work Shift 3 hours: 9:00 pm to 7:15 am 4/10's, Monday-Thursday
