Help

Major duties include:

  • Ensures the most effective, most efficient and most economical accomplishment of assigned tasks through utilization of procedures, general instructions, and established policies.
  • Procures and purchases materials, supplies, and equipment under the micro purchase card limit.
  • Supports the VA small business program goals and identifies opportunities to purchase products and services from small businesses including 8(a), small disadvantages, women-owned and Hub Zone, with particular emphasis on meeting VA socioeconomic goals for veteran-owned small business and service-disabled veteran-owned small business.
  • Acts as the Contractor's Technical Representative for maintenance contracts that apply to incumbents.
  • Works in conjunction with the Projects Section and acts as subject matter expert in regards to the Electrical Utility system and the Electrical infrastructure associated with existing assets and project build, assists with the planning and coordination for all in-house station level projects.
  • Plans weekly and sometimes monthly work schedules and coordinates shop assignments and sequences of the Electrical and Electronic Mechanic sections.
  • Sets a good example for subordinate employees to encourage participation in achievement of management objectives and goals.
  • Schedules and approves leave requests of subordinates and makes formal appraisals of their performance.
  • Determines training needs, initiates recommendations for promotions or re-assignments of subordinates.
  • Ensures that employees observe rules and regulations, housekeeping, conduct, and safety.
  • Supervises subordinates in the maintenance and repair of electronics equipment such as fire alarms, nurses call systems, audio and video equipment and two-way radio systems.
  • Supervises subordinates in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment such as emergency generators, switch gear, transformers, disconnects, and branch circuits.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent performs duties in all areas of this facility ranging from offices to areas of high noise levels and other uncomfortable conditions. These include tunnels, mechanical rooms and interstitial space, requiring kneeling, stooping, crawling and climbing ladders. The incumbent may be required to work outside in adverse weather and in areas containing fumes, dust or smoke. The incumbent spends portions of his/her time at a desk. However, he/she may be required to stand or walk for long periods of time in order to accomplish workloads during the day.
