Summary

About the Position: The position will work in Madigan Army Medical Center's Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) supporting Active-Duty soldiers. The incumbent will be a member of a multidisciplinary team and responsible for leading group therapy and providing individual counseling. The program includes specialized treatment tracks for addition medicine, psychological health, and trauma.

Duties

Help
  • Conduct collateral consultations with commanding officers, supervisors, and medical personnel.
  • Apply complex behavioral health and/or substance abuse rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and/or substance use evaluations.
  • Prepare treatment plans that incorporate psychological theory and counseling techniques, and goals needed to restore patients to their normal work and social environment.
  • Provide brief strategic interventions, motivational interviewing techniques, and crisis counseling for patients and families.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling.
  • Prepare written diagnoses in a detailed, clear, and concise manner.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series (Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, etc.)
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes: providing comprehensive evaluations to patients; developing or implementing treatment plans; and providing individual or group professional counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Licensure for Social Worker: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Licensure for Counseling Psychologist: A current, active, valid, unrestricted Master's Level counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker:

Education: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Basic Requirements for Counseling Psychologist:

Education:
Two full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Additional information

  • Strong clinical skills in both group and individual modalities and experience relevant in specialized tracks: addition medicine, psychological health, and trauma is highly desirable.
  • Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
