The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD 30) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Colorado is searching for a Defense Red Switch Network (NH-0391-02, GS 5-11 equivalent).

Description:
We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team and support our daily Information and Communications Technology (ICT) operations. In this position, you will be a key team player responsible for organizing and directing the daily activities of the organization, ensuring our work complies with all requirements while meeting customer needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supporting the installation and sustainment of all base ICT systems, reviewing service requests, preparing cost estimates, and resolving technical problems to keep our infrastructure running smoothly.

This role requires a team player who can professionally represent the organization and work effectively with others. You will serve as a liaison between contractors, vendors, and government officials to solve a variety of challenges. A key part of your work will involve strategic planning, where you will help develop the methods, policies, and long-range plans for our ICT systems, all while adhering to security policies like OPSEC and COMSEC.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in equipment maintenance, with experience testing for serviceability and performing preventive maintenance. They must be skilled in fault isolation, coordinating with third-party providers, and conducting periodic inspections and repairs. The role also requires the ability to develop communication contingency plans, conduct traffic analysis, and document all maintenance actions. Finally, the candidate will possess the ability to provide technical assistance, guidance, and training on Information and Communications Technology systems and infrastructure to a variety of users and customers.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of ICT theories, concepts, principles, practices, procedures, policies, standards and operational requirements to include DOD and USSF security policies and guidelines.
2. Knowledge of performance characteristics of ICT equipment, infrastructure, systems, services, and transmission media to develop procedures/policies/practices for local use and evaluate devices, proposals, and approaches.
3. Knowledge of basic electronics theory and operating principles, the application of existing and planned technology to communications requirements, and equipment interoperability and compatibility.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet changing and challenging deadlines.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to identify, direct, or coordinate actions required in providing needed service.
6. Ability to analyze/apply specialized communication methods, engineering drawings, analytical techniques, and information involving ICT systems and infrastructure (e.g., systems compatibility, circuits, switches, distribution, satellite linkages, and networking).
7. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with key individuals/groups within and outside immediate work unit including field-level representatives.
8. Ability to advise senior leaders, Program Element Monitors and field-level representatives.
9. Skill in using ICT tools, test equipment, computers and operating a motor vehicle.
10. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures such as safety precautions.

  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • May be required to work away from normal duty station, travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on a scheduled or an unscheduled emergency basis and be recalled to duty.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include anytime day or night, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license to operate government vehicles.
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • This position may be a cybersecurity position, and the employee will need to attain appropriate DoW approved cybersecurity certificate(s) applicable for cybersecurity functions.
  • May be appointed to perform other administrative/additional duties as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Physical Required: Due to heavy lifting, climbing ladders, under floors/desks/crawl spaces, stooping, kneeling, hearing and eyesight.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
