The incumbent serves as the Supervisory Compliance Investigator for CPSC's Office of Import Surveillance and is responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists the Deputy Director and Director in the development of a comprehensive, nationwide ongoing import surveillance program.
  • Provides day-to-day managerial direction and exercises supervisory authority.
  • Supervises the collection and evaluation of data from various intelligence sources as part of a nationwide program.
  • Maintains on-going liaison with staff from U.S. Customs and Border Protection at ports across the United States.
  • Directs the initiation and maintenance of liaison with various Federal government agencies.
  • Works with other Office of Compliance and Field Operations (EXC) program managers to develop comprehensive short- and long-range work plans for the implementation of yearly compliance enforcement programs.

You will be required to serve a 1-year supervisory probationary period.

Selectees living in the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as CPSC Headquarters. Selectees living outside the Washington, D.C. locality pay area will have their duty station listed as their home address. The locality pay you receive will be determined by your duty station: CPSC Headquarters (Bethesda, MD), or home address if located outside the D.C. locality pay area.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-14:  1) Leading the activities of a project, team or organizational unit; 2) executing a local or national import surveillance or compliance enforcement program; and 3) serving as a liaison to other CPSC offices and/or federal agencies to accomplish a common goal.
