Duties

Help
  • You will prepare technical reports at the conclusion of each work assignment identifying significant problems, causes and corrections applied.
  • You will diagnose and correct any repairs and provide technical services as needed.
  • You will liaison with the Ship Class Squadron (CLASSRON) on technical matters affecting ship operations.
  • You will coordinate work with ships force to resolve scheduling issues in order to meet Fleet mission requirements.
  • You will perform the full range of system/subsystem inspections and functional operation and troubleshooting assignments.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification via command sponsored training during working hours.
  • Shift hours may change without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Providing technical service in connection with maintenance of elevators and conveyors for ship repair.
2) Troubleshooting and providing technical services for equipment such as boat davits, anchor windlass, sliding padeyes for repair and maintenance.
3) Providing technical service for equipment or parts such as hoists, doors including helo hanger doors, Recovery, Assist, Secure and Traverse (RAST) system for ship repair.
4) Troubleshooting and repair of LCS Water Jet system and/or steering system for ship maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Approximately 20% of the work is performed in an office setting. The shipboard phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work regularly involves working inside machinery spaces; frequent exposure to hazardous electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear-powered ships; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials; etc. Work may require incumbent to be subjected to adverse environmental conditions while on board ship such as extreme hot and cold and excessive humidity, noise and airborne particles (such as smoke, industrial debris, etc.). The work is normally required aboard U.S. naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopters and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High-line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks. There are also requirements to conduct surface vessel/submarine at-sea trials and evaluations. Appropriate personal protective equipment (hard hat, steel toe shoes, double hearing protection and safety glasses) will be required.

This is a Key/Emergency-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority.
