Summary

The Deputy District Manager is responsible for exercising extensive resource management authority and responsibility in planning, developing, organizing, directing, controlling, and coordinating the FSIS public health regulatory strategy for their assigned district.

Duties

Help
  • Manages a full range of public health and consumer protection activities in the district.
  • Implements FSIS goals and priorities for food safety, regulatory enforcement, and public health.
  • Assists in determining resource needs of the district in terms of funding, personnel, materials, and facilities.
  • Utilizes financial and program reporting systems to leverage and prioritize resource allocation decisions.
  • Formulates operational policies, procedures, and programs including long-range goals and priorities for program activities within the district.
  • Interacts with subordinate managers, supervisors and staff to explain changes or new procedures and clarify respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Offers suggestions to the district or headquarters for effectively implementing and improving new programs and procedures.
  • Directs and manages a wide range of supervisory, professional, scientific, and technical personnel responsible for carrying out duties directly relating to day-to-day verification of compliance with food safety system regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade:
Applicants must meet one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-13 grade level for consideration for the GS-14 grade level.)

For the GS-14 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-13 level) that demonstrates:

Responsible for performing, planning, and managing multi-level, multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed workforce. Oversee and enforce a full range of public health and other consumer protection regulatory requirements. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and develop solutions to personnel management and enforcement areas as they relate to goals and priorities for food safety. Responsible for managing a full range of public health regulatory and other consumer protection program activities.
