Duties

Help
  • Operate several types of gasoline or diesel powered heavy engineering and construction equipment.
  • Operate equipment to clear snow and ice from areas such as main and subsidiary roads within the post, housing areas, parking and storage areas, and airfield runways, and taxiways.
  • Operate engineering equipment ranging from heavy road graders, bulldozers, and road rollers to tractor-mounted brooms, electro-magnets, trucks, and light bulldozers in the accomplishment of maintenance and repair of roads and grounds.
  • Operate engineering equipment in connection with fighting or preventative control of tundra and grass fires and forest fires.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical exam thereafter.
  • This is a Drug Testing position. This position requires a pre-employment drug test and recurring drug testing thereafter.
  • This position requires incumbent to do Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • This position requires incumbent to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a state driver's license.
  • This position requires incumbent to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • This position may require Temporary Duty (TDY) requirement of 5%.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks by safely operating and maneuvering one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment. I can grade surfaces, compact soils, or roll to exact specifications on flat or rolling terrain and steer and operate engineering equipment by using clutches, levers, brakes, and valves according to the slope or tilt. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Operator duties require changing the position of the attachments often and rapidly as the operator adjusts to the changing conditions of the surface. Subject to strain caused by vibrations or equipment and jerking and jolting motions. May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: May be required to work in inclement weather conditions. Work is performed in all types of weather on flat and sloping terrain. Exposed to injury while exposed to weather (e.g., frostbite) or when equipment overturns. Subject to working in extremely low temperatures and high winds. Subject to constant noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and fatigue from constant manipulation of controls. May be required to wear special safety gear depending upon equipment and/or conditions.
