II. Major Duties and Responsibilities

Under limited supervision from the Branch Manager, perform a variety of building pier, and equipment maintenance tasks of a level of difficulty at the semi-journeyman level. May provide advice or assistance to other maintenance workers and laborers working in assigned duties. Performs tasks in the following categories:

1. Incumbent operates various heavy equipment and does general handling (including rigging) of boats in support of the winter storage program and the summer mooring program. Such equipment shall include forklifts, con-o-lift trailer, various hoisting tackle, mast stepping crane, shrink wrapping equipment and pressure washing machine.

2. Welding: Performs structural maintenance and repairs of star docks, moorings, and pier which may include cutting and welding. In addition, also performs minor fiberglass repair and other structural repairs to the various facility boats.

3. Makes improvements to existing departmental facilities through minor carpentry and mechanical skills. Arranges for the equipment, supplies, and services needed to accomplish various maintenance projects. Takes periodic inventory of maintenance stock and equipment as required.

4. Maintains daily cleanliness of the facilities. May perform janitorial tasks such as trash disposing, cleaning restrooms, and cleaning the buildings along with general housekeeping functions. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

Must have an extensive background in mechanics with experience in operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to, a forklift license with a minimum rating of 6,000 pounds, or proven experience to get one.

In addition, knowledge and experience handling boats, power tools, and related equipment.

Must have a working knowledge of boat repair, seamanship, and weather.
