As a Bookbinder II (Journeyman), you will be assigned to the currency section and must be certified to operate all facets of the Offline Currency Inspection System. You will perform traditional bookbinding operations and production processing and finishing of high-quality security materials representative of the Bookbinder I.
Summary

All candidates who are:
(1) Current Bureau of Engraving and Printing employees who are qualifying as Status Eligibles or currently serving on a permanent Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA)
(2) CTAP eligibles
Utilize automated, multi-functional processing equipment that require the accurate integration of mechanical and electronic (computer) applications in processing and examining work.
Read and interpret the data displayed on computer monitors, determine flaws, and use the keyboard/related software or employing mechanical applications to makes adjustments to correct the problems related to: machine speed registration, sensor eye input, product quality and quantity, security requirements, settings, etc.
Utilize a color graphic display monitor with pull down menus to set up, start, monitor, and control the Offline Currency Inspection System (OCIS).
Navigate through several computer programs simultaneously and work on multiple axis points.
Be accountable for completed load of currency (COPE load) and enter critical data to generate a Load Examination Result (LER), which keeps a running account of all currency within the Mechanical Examination Section.
All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a standing position and considerable bending, stooping, crouching, climbing and stretching is required to operate the machines and to make necessary adjustments.
There is also moderate to heavy lifting (10 to 40 Ibs) of paper stock.
Good eyesight is required as well as eye-hand coordination.
Manual dexterity is required for the operation and adjustment of machines and equipment and for the hand operations associated with binding and finishing activities.
Must be extremely alert and attentive to work and machine operations to ensure accuracy, to detect machine malfunctions and defective products, to avoid spoilage, and to ensure that all safety requirements are adhered to.
This position requires access to a production area. BEP production areas are considered High Risk security areas.
